Overview
Meadow View Nursing Center, a 150-bed, three-story continuing care retirement community, implemented the Novaerus portable Protect 200 and Protect 900 units in selected rooms and areas in July 2014. This study compares the total number of respiratory nosocomial infections before and after implementation of the Novaerus technology.
A 24-month review was conducted to evaluate the results.
Methodology
A Nurse Risk Manager Consultant with RB Health Partners, Inc. visited the facility for two days to abstract information and review the data. The periods selected for aggregate pre- and post-review were August 2013 through April 2014 and August 2014 through April 2015. Comparison of like periods reduces the risk of skewed data related to seasonal variances.
Results
In the period after implementation of the Protect 200 and Protect 900 units in selected areas, the total number of nosocomial respiratory infections at Meadow View Nursing Center decreased from 93 to 21, a 77.42% reduction.
The total number of nosocomial respiratory infections on the first floor decreased from 39 to 14, a 64.10%.
The total number of nosocomial respiratory infections on the second floor decreased from 31 to 6, an 80.65% reduction.
The total number of nosocomial respiratory infections on the third floor decreased from 23 to 1, a 95.65% reduction.
